Celebrate Green Tea House Grand Opening with Qigong and Chinese Calligraphy
One breath, One brush stroke, One Movement taught by Lorelei Chang
Saturday, November 18, 2017, 10:30am-12:30pm

This workshop is designed by Lorelei Chang. It offers an insightful way to connect mind, body, and spirit with breath, brush, and movement.
Using her unique skills, Lorelei combines the art form of Chinese Calligraphy, ancient Qigong breath work, and flowing movement in this workshop. It consists of breathe work incorporated into a slow Qigong form, using the body as a brush and moving through space as if painting on canvas.  Students will also have hands-on experience working with Lorelei on traditional Chinese calligraphy, learning basic strokes. As a highlight of the grand opening of the Green Tea House, students will have an opportunity to create their own “character” to bring home. This process channels creativity, challenges nonjudgmental mind, and encourages playful attitude in life. Green Tea House is considering offering this workshop for their cultural enrichment program in the near future. Please stay tuned for details. Hope to see you at the event.

Echoes Beyond The Forbidden City

Echoes Beyond The Forbidden City
dancEnlight Presents
Echoes Beyond the Forbidden City
Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 PM Sunday, March 26 at 2 PM
University of Saint Joseph
Hoffman Auditorium in the Brunette Athenaeum

The Forbidden City is one of my favorite places to visit ever since I was a little girl. The dazzling architecture, the mystery behind the Palace red doors, and the many untold stories behind these scenes are all fascinating and continue to inspire me as an adult. The Forbidden City’s incredible history began in the early fifteenth century and served as the Imperial Palace of China’s Ming and Qing Dynasties. Over a period of five centuries, twenty-four emperors ruled from within its high walls and heavy doors until the abdication of the last Emperor PuYi of the Qing Dynasty in 1912.
"Echoes Beyond the Forbidden City” involved many hands and minds to produce. I would like to acknowledge the people who took part in this production and helped me bring this performance to the stage.

Empty space - a potter’s vessel, an unfurnished room, a barren stage … All are seemingly still, without meaning, anticipating a life of intention. In time, the vessel may hold water, the room become furnished and the stage embrace an ever-changing outpouring of artistic fantasies. Empty space can be as vast as the sky or clearly limited by its surroundings. Artistic Director Lorelei Chang and her dancers view emptiness, itself, as a vessel for both invention and practicality, and they invite you to join them on their creative exploration of an empty stage as they demonstrate its limitless potential.

Lines Beyond Form

Lines Beyond Form
dancEnlight Presents

March 28, 7:30 p.m., March 29, 2 p.m.
dancEnlight Preprofessional Company Presents
“Ink Passion”
March 27, 7:30 p.m.
Herbert Gilman Theater, Mandell Jewish Community Center

About the work

Line Beyond Form is a creative exploration of lines inspired in part by Paul Klee’s whimsical definition “A line is a dot that went for a walk”. Our world is in many ways defined by lines, both real and abstract, providing fuel for an artistic journey that tantalizes the imagination and challenges the limits of movement. Unlike many of Mondrian’s stark line paintings, Artistic Director, Lorelei Chang and her company members use lines as a springboard for invention pushing the limits of movement in ways that fascinate and delight. A thread, a labyrinth, boundaries, lines of thought ... all lend themselves to myriad interpretations and compelling possibilities.

Ink Passion made its debut at Charter Oak Cultural Center in March 2009, a full-length work exploring the relationship between movement and Chinese calligraphy. Lorelei’s lifelong study of calligraphy has influenced her choreography and inspired to compliment and redefine many of the various mediums—from script to clothing—of an ancient art form. Ink Passion’s culturally infused dancing thoroughly investigates the act of creating calligraphy as a live performance art. Through full-bodied musicality, intense emotion and the subtle juxtaposition of the body’s dance with dance of the inked brush, Ink Passion brings a new perspective to contemporary movement and the ancient art form.

dancEnlight presents
"Zen Landscape"
Artistic Director: Lorelei Chang
Guest Performer and choreographer: Mai Nakanishi
Guest Musician: Joseph Getter

Loomis Chaffee School Hubbard Hall
4 Batchelder, Windsor, CT 06095

Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 7:30pm
Sunday, March 23, 2013 at 2pm

Over the years, Chang has become increasingly captivated by the Japanese rock garden, Kare-Sansui, or dry landscape. During her most recent visit, the distinctive gardens along with the Japanese culture, its people and their way of life, inspired her to create an exciting new dance production.

While Chang was born and raised in China, she travels frequently to Japan and understands the intimate cultural relationship between the two countries. The "rock garden", though originating in China, was enhanced by Japan who embraced its Zen nature and simplicity of design so in harmony with the country's traditionally simple way of life. This principle is so infused in the Asian mind and soul, it is said that its poetry, painting, calligraphy, religion and meditation influence one another and thus are intertwined. The dancers will be accompanied by the live music and brilliant improvisations of Composer Joseph Getter. The Chinese-Japanese guest performer and choreographer, Mai Nakanishi return for another wonderful collaboration.

Tickets: $25 General, $15 Senior, $10 Student. Please call 860-558-6146 to reserve your tickets.

This program is supported by Mass Mutual, and many anonymous donors!

Sacred Existence premieres at University of Saint Joseph 3/15 & 16, 2013 at 7:30pm
"Sacred Existence" was inspired by the stunning documentary film entitled
"The Unmistaken Child", directed by Nati Baratz. This evening length work is based on the real life experience of the Buddhist monk Tenzin, who is on a quest to find the reincarnation of his master, Tibetan Buddhist Lama Konchog, in the body of a young child.
dancEnlight Artistic Director Lorelei Chang takes us on a soulful journey through fourteen chapters of dance that capture the sacred existence of over 700 years of Buddhist teaching. Special guest dancers Jonah Rodriguez and Brielle Polidoro from Connecticut Concert Ballet will join us in this unforgettable performance.
