Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy
Date and Time: January 4th to March 14, 2024 (10 wks, no class on Jan 18)
Thursdays, 7pm-8:15pm

$25 per person per class (All supplied will be provided)
$200 per person for 10 weeks. Save $50 plus get a complimentary brush ($15-$25 value) . All supplies will be provided.

Chinese Calligraphy is an artistic expression of written language that has evolved throughout Chinese history for thousand of years. It is not only one of the most beautiful brush work, it's indeed one of best tools that we can use to calm our busy mind and heart which is much needed in our daily life.

Throughout history, Chinese calligraphy has been used as a tool to ease physical tensions and daily stress. Some of the hospitals in China where have the patients to practice calligraphy daily to support their healings.

In these 10 weeks session, you will learn a series of exercises for building foundation for the brush work, and eight basic strokes which is fundamental techniques of Chinese calligraphy.

To practice Chinese calligraphy at home, you will need below items:

1.Calligraphy brush (small or medium size). You might purchase on amazon. I also have some high quality brushes I brought back from China if you like to purchase. It's anywhere from $15 to $25.

2. Sumi ink. You can get from amazon. Please see the link below:

3.container. Any kind of container would work.

4. Regular copy paper of sketch paper

5. Something underneath the paper so the ink won't go through. Felt works the best.

Lorelei's short bio
Lorelei Chang started studying Chinese calligraphy at the age of 4 in China. She also learned under her father's tutelage, who was also a great calligrapher. She excelled in this art over the years and had the honor to display her works in the Tokyo Museum of Chinese Calligraphy in 2009. She looks forward to sharing this beautiful art form with others.
